Artisteer Template Builder Revealed – Does it Really Work?

I know you are looking for a review of Artisteer and you may be ready to download the free trial, but before you do there are some important facts to consider, keep reading to find out if Artisteer lives up to it’s claims.

The developers of Artisteer claim it can quickly, and easily, create beautiful, professional templates and themes for Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, DotNetNuke, Blogger, as well as web developer templates for HTML, ASP.NET, and CodeCharge Studio. They boast that you can create an unlimited number of Artisteer templates without any knowledge of HTML, CSS, or any other editing software, such as Photoshop or Dreamweaver.

Well I purchased a copy and I am going to put it to the test in this exclusive review. I’ll reveal exactly how the features stack up and outline the pros and cons of Artisteer.

It’s important to note that I will be reviewing Artisteer version 2.4.0.26594 Standard Edition. There is a scaled down version, called Artisteer home edition.

You can view all of the features of each version below or on the Artisteer website. In addition, I want to also note that they do update the program often, and many updates include additional features.

For the most up to date view of Artisteer features I recommend you visit Artisteer.com.

Best Feature of Artisteer

My favorite feature of Artisteer 2 has to be the suggestion buttons. These allow you to change either the entire template, or a section of the template with a single click of the mouse. This really helps you if you are having web design block (like writers block but for web designers) and want view a change, but you just don’t know what you want to change. Artisteer does include an undo button, as well as a redo button so you can get back to a previous design with ease. I do however recommend that you save any templates that you like, since you can make vast changes rather quickly using the suggestion buttons, and you may forget about a theme you created.

Artisteer Ease of Use

Ease of use, is accomplished by a very intuitive interface, although some changes you make in Artisteer may take a moment to show up on the screen, it is still much faster than changing the code, or editing in graphic editing software such as Photoshop. Even a novice who has never used any type of picture editing software can make custom effects such as adding gradient, textures, shadows, borders, or editing colors, fills and shapes for everything from the buttons to the main body of the template itself and everything in between. The only thing I see as lacking id the ability to add reflections, which, hopefully it will be added in a future update.

Artisteer Template Building – Customization

What good is a template builder if you can’t build custom templates? Obviously if you wanted someone else’s design you could go buy a Joomla template or a WordPress theme that is already built and install it and be done. So how does Artisteer fair when it comes to customization? In addition to the ability to, manually customize virtually every area of the templates you build, in the Artisteer Standard Edition, you also have the ability to upload your own images for further customization of your template. You can build a custom header with your images, logos, etc and even add your own header background images. Artisteer 2 comes with many backgrounds and foreground images included ready to go. They recently added some header flash effects included with feature customization, and the ability to upload your own Flash effects as well. You can also upload custom images for RSS feeder Icons as well as custom background images for the entire web template. If you have some knowledge of CSS and HTML, you can always make additional customizations after your template is exported, or even edit it in an HTML editor.

Review Summary

Artisteer Pros:
* Easy to use and FAST
* Creates unlimited templates
* Fully customized results
* Multi platform
* Updated frequently
* Ability to deploy 1 template across multiple CMS sites

Artisteer Cons:
* Slow to refresh at times
* Lacks reflection effects
* Does not allow custom button uploads
* Missing social media icons

With it’s many versatile and easy to use features, and the constant addition enhancements via ongoing updates, Artisteer 2 definitely lives up to it’s claims as being the “web design automation product that instantly creates fantastic looking, unique website templates and blog themes”.

If you are looking for a way to build website templates and themes for any or all of the platforms that Artisteer supports, then I highly recommend you give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
